About the artist

Marcy Jean Kennedy Anderson was born and raised in Alton, Illinois. Throughout her upbringing, her family constantly encouraged her to express herself through art and enrolled her in oil painting classes by the age of ten. She became proficient in the traditional practice of realism, but had been inspired by such artists as Salvador Dali, MC Escher, and H.R. Giger, and was heavily influenced by nature and the emotional experiences she gained through her travels.

In 2001, she moved to Chicago to study at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in an attempt to stretch her artistic vocabulary and delve deep into her imagination. She was especially inspired by the Chicago Imagists, who she studied under, and was one day given a piece of advice that changed her art direction: to "draw what's inside of you."

In subsequent years, she has continued to express herself through a wide variety of 2-D art forms and has shown her art in a wide variety of public and private galleries. Her commissions have led her to utilize realism, surrealism and impressionism across a variety of unique projects.
